Welcome
After your interrogation, you find yourself back in a physical state. You are sedate and calm, taking in your surroundings with curiosity, without panic or distress. You know you had been held for a very long time in your last location, but you are not disturbed by this, not yet. You are dressed in clean white robes, with any existing injuries having been miraculously healed. Along with others, you are seated in a circle around the altar, gazing at a logo suspended in midair: SYNC.

It's not long before you realize the logo you have been viewing is a menu, displayed within your line of sight. You reach toward your eyes to find the source of the image, but there is nothing there; dimly, you remember something being pressed to the base of your skull, and being injected—with a chip or some other device. You reach back to feel the injection point, but it is fully healed.
Your eyes flicker past the display, and the menu is selected; you are then presented with a EULA that you are forced to accept before you can proceed any further:
Welcome to Entartung! Dear Citizen, Congratulations are in order on your arrival to our community, as well as the implantation of your Synaptic-Yoked Network Connection (SYNC) chip. Please take the time to peruse the following so that you know your rights and responsibilities as a citizen. End user license agreement for SYNC chip |
So begins your life on Entartung, a segmented Dyson ring orbiting a white dwarf star in a faraway galaxy. The people here seem content to give up their personal autonomy for some personal safety, and they don't seem to mind bodily intrusions like having the SYNC chip implanted.
The thing is that Entartung seems to have many more secrets than the people who have lived here seem willing to divulge. Will you be able to help discover them?
Clearly you agreed before being sent here, or you wouldn't be here. The screening process ensures that only citizens who want to help populate this society would be sent.
I didn't agree to have the network chip implanted, either.
Again, this wouldn't have been done if you hadn't agreed to it during the screening process. The arrival procedures sometimes leave people disoriented for a time, but this should settle out shortly.
I'm so upset now that I'm no longer sedated that I'm going to attack the priestess of the temple or the medical staff nearby!
You should be aware that doing so is punishable by immediate imprisonment in the district's jail. Witness testimony is all that is needed to incarcerate you, and the head of the Newcomers district neighborhood association can be fairly strict.
Where's my stuff?
Any items you had on your person when you were taken from your home will be in one of the dressing rooms off to the side of the sanctuary. You can change out of your robe in the dressing room, or you can wear it to your new home in the city of Centre.
Where will I live?
All Newcomers are entitled to live in the Keen Apartment Block for free, or any other housing within the Newcomers district. Simply find an empty apartment or house in the district and select the location in the SYNC menu to claim it as your home, and the system will reserve it for you. Living outside the district is not recommended until after citizens have acclimated to their new lifestyle in the city.
Is there anything else I need to do before I can leave the temple?
Spend a few moments being checked by the attendant medical staff to enter your medical record into the SYNC system, and supply the system with your network ID. You will receive a stipend in your bank account after your network ID is set up, which will be enough to buy some articles of clothing or other necessities. Food and water are free in the newcomers district, as well as rental for your place of residence, so those needs shouldn't be many.
How long was I questioned before I ended up coming here?
We certainly have no way of knowing that. How long did it seem to be...?
